Established in 1983 as the Australian Packaging Machinery Association and incorporated in 1990, its name was changed to the Australian Packaging and Processing Machinery Association in 2010.

The Australian Packaging and Processing Machinery Association is the only national organisation to represent the packaging and processing machinery industry.
