Global packaging leader, Berry Global Group, earned an Organizational Leadership Award from the Climate Registry at the 2024 Climate Leadership Awards. Recognizing actions that go beyond business-as-usual in the management and reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, this award underscores Berry’s commitment to advancing climate action across its global operations and supply chain.
“We are committed to leveraging organizational resources and value-chain collaboration to continue paving the way for a circular, net-zero economy for plastics," said Robert Flores, Vice President of Sustainability at Berry Global. “This prestigious award reflects our company’s dedication to collaborating with our internal and external stakeholders to minimize the impacts of our products and operations on the environment.”
The Climate Registry’s Organizational Leadership award recognizes organizations that not only have their own comprehensive GHG inventories and aggressive emissions reduction goals, but also exemplify extraordinary leadership in their internal response to climate change and engagement of their internal stakeholders, peers, and partners. Berry’s Organizational Leadership award underscores important climate efforts and progress between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2023, including:
- Committed to achieve net-zero emissions across global operations and value chain by 2050
- Achieved short-term Scope 1 and 2 (operational) GHG emissions reduction target 2 years early
- Cut Scope 3 (value chain) GHG emissions by 21% (versus 2019) to advance goal of 25% by 2025
- Reduced energy use by over 125 million kilowatt hours through 324 employee-led energy efficiency projects
- Launched a global sustainability More Together campaign encouraging employees, customers, and partners to turn their personal sustainability passions into action
- Tied a portion of executive compensation to the achievement of climate goals
“Congratulations to the 2024 Climate Leadership Award winner, Berry Global, for their stand-out achievements,” said Amy Holm, Executive Director of The Climate Registry. “At a time when the world urgently needs more climate ambition, these organizations and individuals demonstrate what is possible.”
