As people increasingly seek personalized and targeted medical treatments, research and development in modern medicine is rapidly increasing. According to a recent report by Statista, revenue for the U.S. pharmaceuticals market is expected to reach $636.90bn in 2024.
Along with this growth in medicine innovation is the need for reliable packaging solutions that help ensure optimal protection while meeting the growing demand for sustainability. As a global packaging leader, Berry offers a complete line of pharmaceutical packaging, including vials, prescription oval bottles, traditional packer bottles, and ointment jars for both hand-filling and central fill automated applications.
In addition to market-leading solutions like Friendly & Safe™ and PERFECTPak™ vials, we also offer a range of matching closures – from snap-on to child-resistant – that can be custom printed for enhanced branding.
Sustainability
These bottles, jars, and closures are part of Berry's B Circular Range of packaging and product solutions that leverage our engineering expertise and proprietary processes in the design for circularity to reduce products’ impact on the environment, focusing on helping brand owners meet and exceed their sustainability goals.
Manufactured with mono-material, fully recyclable polypropylene (PP), these products meet rigorous quality and performance standards and the entire package (i.e., vial and cap) can be recycled together, simplifying sortation and increasing the likelihood the material will be processed as intended. Moreover, the vials are lighter weight compared to prior Berry generations, helping to reduce transport and storage impact and decrease greenhouse gas emissions.
Quality
To help protect medications from the effects of light exposure, such as potency loss and decreased effectiveness, we uphold rigorous quality management standards and take extra measures to ensure our vials comply with the Consumer Product Safety Commission and United States Pharmacopeia (USP) standards. For example, the quality department at Berry’s Jackson, Tennessee plant, conducts light transmission testing to ensure prescription packaging meets acceptable spectral transmission levels of less than 10% between 290 and 450 nm wavelengths.1
Additionally, we recently partnered with a supplier on a new, innovative equipment design that measures UV light transmission safer and faster, allowing us to measure more parts per work order while helping ensure the highest quality products for our customers.
