As a responsible manufacturer and distributor, BLUESKY are committed to minimising our environmental impact as a business and continually evolving to ensure we are serving our clients in the most cost-effective, sustainable, and environmentally-friendly way.
Key considerations
Due to the markets BLUESKY focus on, the bottles and jars we supply are not deemed to be 'single use products'. Personal care packaging is designed to protect and preserve the product it contains, for the life of the product - thus maximising the benefit of the product to the consumer. This is a primary consideration when selecting the best material to use. For many products, plastic remains the most effective and environmentally friendly way to transport, store and dispense your product.
Given the huge demand for Post Consumer Regrind (PCR) in other markets such as food & beverage (e.g. bottled water), for products with a longer lifecyle, it can often make more sense to use virgin polymer and highlight the importance of responsible recycling to the consumer - via labelling/outerpackaging. There have been major advances in recycling infrastructures in recent years and BLUESKY supports and endorses continuous development of recycling capacity.
Technically every product we supply can be recycled - practically this may not happen. Using virgin polymer can also introduce new feedstock into the PCR supply chain, this is important as some polymers can degrade when recycled multiple times (i.e. producing PCR from PCR) thus affecting the integrity of the package. Speak to us about how to ensure your product is properly protected.
The inclusion of PCR for many brand owners is not just about the Plastic Packaging Tax, it is also the opportunity to embrace the consumer demand for packaging which includes recycled content. To this end BLUESKY have ranges of bottles with 30% PCR content available from stock and can also manufacture most of our products with 30%+ PCR content, subject to minimum order quantities - contact us to discuss the products you need.
BLUESKY advise against compostable packaging as this is not recyclable and in reality often ends up being incinerated or creating further environmental issues. It has also been suggested that microplastics are entering the water systems due to additives being used to aid biodegradability, and this does not resolve the issue or support a circular economy.
