Strong Growth for Boxon in China

“We realised that many Scandinavian and European customers who have moved their manufacturing to China would need a local provider of packaging materials and solutions. As one of the first Scandinavian companies to enter this arena, we’ve developed excellent customer relationships and a broad customer base,” explains Tom Johnson, General Manager Boxon China.

“In hindsight, the decision to implement our Scandinavian business model in China from day one has been crucial to our success. So far this year, our sales volume has grown by over 50% and we’ve generated higher margins compared to last year. This strong growth is a clear sign of how successful we’ve been at developing Boxon China into a well-functioning supplier and partner for our customers. We’ve paved the way for the next big step of expanding our customer base even further.

“The market for foreign packaging companies in China is now mature in terms of supply and demand. Our concept as a complete packaging supplier, combined with our service offering, has secured a sound foothold,” continues Tom Johnson.

Boxon’s presence in China since 2011 has given them an edge over their competitors. Although some other packaging industry operators are now following in their footsteps, it takes time to develop supplier relationships and take control of the entire Supply Chain process – both critical success factors.

But not everyone is convinced of the wisdom of opening up in China. Several industry operators have been reluctant to yield to customer demands and have opted to continue serving customers from Sweden. The ones who have solved the problem of deliveries from Sweden to China, however, are finding it increasingly difficult to hold on to their customers, who would prefer the packaging flow to be handled locally.

A similar increase in growth is planned for the coming years. Boxon believes strongly in this concept, as the demand from European global companies with manufacturing in China is widespread and persistent.

“We’re now turning our attention to a new logistics design in collaboration with our strategic partners to increase our logistics capacity and better meet customer delivery requirements,” Tom Johnson concludes.

Boxon China opened in Shanghai in 2011 to serve Scandinavian customers who want packaging solutions on the Chinese market. It decided to implement its Scandinavian business model in China with Scandinavian management from day one. Tom Johnson runs and develops Boxon China with a team of 20 people in sales, logistics and procurement, as well as construction and design. Please visit www.boxonchina.com to find out more.
