Falcon Eye – carrying out a final optical check

The ‘Falcon Eye’ system helps exclude potential defects in the product. The Falcon Eye monitors the final stage of the production process to exclude possible sources of defects.

In order to exclude all possible sources of defects at the final stage of the production process, BT-Watzke decided to use the Falcon Eye product as a monitoring system on both of their cap production lines. These systems were installed at the beginning of January 2012 by the tried-and-tested team from the company Bortolin Kemo. Both facilities were converted and a control station integrated into the outlet area of each of the cap production line. The system works using three independent cameras, and monitors each individual cap for external damage.

The sealing disc is also subjected to an all-round check (according to type, distribution, colour, damage, contamination). With the third camera, the mirror of the cap is checked for whether the head pressure and print centring are correct. If there are any deviations, then the defective part is rejected. With these additional quality checks, it is almost impossible for a defective product to reach the packaging carton, and from there the customer.
