Coda Plastics, an award winning, deeply experienced European manufacturer of plastic packaging and products, has produced the award-winning closure and container for Bin Buddy, a new and innovative range of products designed to both kill and repel flies and other insects to keep bins and bin bags smelling great.

The design process of the Bin Buddy packaging had to take into account several goals for parent company Challs, including cost reduction, a two-hinge design (to allow for light sprinkling or direct pouring), and a look to match the "wheelie bins" commonly found on metropolitan streets.

Using advanced 3D modelling technology, Coda was able to create a closure optimized for filling, in addition to its other aesthetic and practical features. The container followed, with SLA models designed and reproduced in Silicon Vac Cast molds as samples. With closure and container creating a perfect and tight fit to dissuade removal prior to purchase (an excellent security feature), the packaging for the Bin Buddy was approved and launched to rave reviews from packaging professionals. In fact, the Bin Buddy packaging concept took Packaging News' UK Packaging Awards by storm, garnering the coveted "Best Packaging of a New Product".

Challs remains delighted with the packaging for the Bin Buddy, as it has allowed the firm to ensure low production costs. In the end, the project took only six and a half months to complete, from initial concept work through delivery.
