    Codorníu

Since 1551, Codorníu is among the most prestigious Wine Houses Worldwide.

Codorníu is synonymous with the history of a family of vine growers dating back to the 16th century. It is the oldest family company in Spain and one of the oldest in the world. It currently has more than 450 years of history.

Manuel Raventós, the great promoter of Codorníu, contracted in 1895 to the modernist architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch (contemporary of Gaudí) to extend the cellar. The building he built symbolizes the fruitful alliance between nature and human labor and is a stone tribute to the silence of the cava. Since 1976 they are Artistic Historical Monument and one of the most impressive examples of architecture dedicated to the elaboration and aging of cavas.

Underground in a labyrinth of underground caverns is where, for a century, Codorníu cavas perform the second fermentation and aging at a constant temperature.

In 1872, Josep Raventós Fatjó made cava for the first time in Spain following the Traditional Method and using native grapes from Penedés: Macabeo, Xarel·lo and Parellada. In this way it established a completely new industry in the region and linked the Codorníu brand to the history of the cava.

A good cava is made with the highest quality grapes. That is why Codorníu carefully selects the grapes and meticulously cares for the vineyards. For many years, the technique of sustainable viticulture has been applied, that is, nature is allowed to continue its course and only intervened when there are mismatches.

This is how Codorníu combines tradition and innovation in the process of making the cava by controlling each stage of the process until the delivery of the final product to the consumer.
