With heads of state from around the globe recently attending the COP21 conference in Paris, the ongoing need to ensure sustainability in both our business and personal lives remains ever high on the agenda.
The business world in the UK has a crucial role to play in the helping to reach the ambitious targets laid out at that conference.
With those objectives in mind, and focussing on our own sector, we believe paper is probably one of the most sustainable universally used products, whether it is for packaging, for magazines, books, pads, promotional mail or a hundred other uses. However, it is nevertheless important to consider the manufacture of paper and board and where possible minimise any impact. From today, we are now able to help clients balance (offset) the carbon emissions related to the manufacture of the paper for their finished product.
Carbon Balancing is facilitated by the World Land Trust (WLT), an international conservation charity, through the preservation of high conservation forests saving threatened habitats and their biodiversity. Sir David Attenborough is among its patrons.
As a key launch partner of Carbon Balanced Paper , Denmaur Sustainability Manager, Danny Doogan stated, “Paper is the most sustainable choice for media communications. Carbon Balancing, however, demonstrates a valid and measurable way of further reducing the carbon footprint of printed media. Furthermore, the association with the WLT enables Denmaur and our customers to support a broader scope of conservation opportunities, which is an important element to include in CSR reporting".
Discussing the new launch, Denmaur Marketing Director Peter Sommerville commented, “Denmaur Independent Papers provides a wide range of papers exclusively from sustainable sources, verified by FSC or PEFC chain of custody.” Continuing, Sommerville states, “We see Carbon Balanced , not as a replacement but as a valuable additional benefit for our print, publishing or end user clients to demonstrate their companies awareness and commitment to a healthier and sustainable environment”.
Commenting on this new partnership, Jonathan Tame, Director of CarbonCO who manages this programme on behalf of WLT commented, “With a wide portfolio of first class environmental products, Denmaur Independent Papers is an obvious choice for us to partner in the United Kingdom.” Tame continued, ”Since its foundation in 1989 the WLT has been working to preserve the world’s most biologically important and threatened lands, and has helped purchase and protect over 540,000 acres of habitats rich in wildlife in Asia, Central and South America and the UK. Choosing Carbon Balanced Paper is not just a simple way for an organisation to reduce their carbon emissions but, at the same time, to preserve threatened habitats for future generations.
