    Yorkshire based luxury pudding producer Just Puds had an established range of puddings on sale through retailers, including Waitrose supermarkets. They approached Design Futures to re-brand their entire range including a re-design of their logo and packaging. The new design communicates each product's simplicity, integrity, luxury and great taste from quality ingredients, whilst maintaining product recognition, promoting supermarket sales and encouraging more supermarket listings. In essence, the packaging had to look as good as each product tastes!

    Dippy Egg

    Design Futures have made all the packaging for the revolutionary new product 'Dippy Egg', which claims to be a modern solution for the age-old problem of making the perfect soft boiled egg. Makers Pork Farms coined the idea for a product consisting of a part-boiled egg which is transformed into a perfectly cooked egg when boiling water is poured on it. Design Futures turned the concept into reality, with designers creating both the external packaging and the internal fitment which protects the egg in transit and also doubles as an egg cup to eat from. The original concept pack consisted of an old soup pot and 2 milk bottle tops, but within an hour Design Futures had generated several new ideas on how the concept could be brought to life, then producing prototype packs that Pork Farms were able to use to demonstrate the product to potential customers. This ambitious and modern packaging concept is innovative, added value to the product and enabled Dippy Egg to attract a lot of attention in a very short timeframe.

    Exquisite Handmade Cakes

    Exquisite Handmade Cakes produce a range of cakes for both the food service industry and retail. They were introduced to the University through the successful Appetizing Innovation project - run by Yorkshire Forward to help the food industry access knowledge within the region's universities. The company's initial request was for a review of their structural packaging and labelling method, but the project developed to include a new rebrand for the company. 'This has been an excellent example of how the skills here at Sheffield Hallam can provide practical support for companies in the region' said John Kirkby, creative director of the Design Future's Packaging Studio.

    Gordon Rhodes

    Providing business support through packaging expertise The Dalesman group provide bespoke flavours for the meat, fish & bakery industries. Their products are highly regarded within the food industry and they approached Design Futures to help them establish a similar name within the retail market. Our brief was to create branding and packaging for a new range of gourmet sauce mixes and stuffings. Designer Nick Waddington says: " We wanted to create more than just individual packaging for the six initial products. We wanted to create a brand and packaging style that has room for growth. Gordon Rhodes was the company founder and was quite a colourful character. We were keen to build the brand around him. We conducted a detailed retail audit with the Dalesman team and used the information gathered to inform our design development.

    Little Valley Brewery

    Summer 2011 saw the introduction of an exciting new rebrand for Yorkshire based business Little Valley Brewery. The Packaging studio team at Design Futures have developed a new brand that aims to drive the business forward into a new era. Little Valley brews all its beers with 100% organic agricultural ingredients, carefully selecting only the best, tastiest organic hops and malts, all brewed with soft Yorkshire water sourced from high in the Pennines. The new brand aims to reflect the strong ethics of the company clearly delivering this proud message through its bottle labels, pump clips and beyond.

    M&S sandwich pack

    Marks and Spencer’s invited Design Futures to look at the future of their ‘cross cut’ sandwich packaging as part of a review of the company's 'Food to Go' range. The brief was to produce conceptual ideas that would add value to the customer and would be environmentally friendly, but without adding significantly to production costs. Initially, we analysed the way current sandwich packs are used and determined how customers ideally like to have their sandwiches presented. The design team then produced a number of concepts that provided real benefits to the customer. The concept chosen by M&S allows the pack to sit on the shelf in the traditional way, but opens from the back - away from the ‘messy’ part of the sandwich - and folds out to form a ‘crumb tray’. M&S and their packaging supplier developed this through to the current production pack used daily in stores today.
