The prestigious catalogue “EPHEMERA” on Favini Crush

    • Favini

The MAK – Wien Museum of Applied Arts – has produced a prestigious anthology celebrating their “EPHEMERA” collection, supported by Favini and Europapier.

Designed by their graphic design team at the Library of MAK this anthology shows documents selected from the MAK collection covering the period of the 18th century to the present day.

It is a collection of illustrative graphics, often with a very high technical and creative quality but are intended as “throw away” items and therefore “ephemeral”, hence the derivation of the title.
This “ephemeral” collection includes an array of day to day items, such as postcards, invitations, labels, greeting cards and menu cards, stamps; other typical applications are posters, playing cards, placeholders, promotional material and gift cards. This compilation of miscellany showcases their beauty and art.

The MAK has an outstanding collection of these works, which, despite their transitory and disposable character, are now made with sophisticated high quality prints.
The museum wanted to assemble this extraordinary collection into one all-encompassing work, creating their treasury of “EPHEMERA”.

The result is a high quality publication. Each section written and introduced by a selection of internationally renowned designers, artists, photographers, publishers and researchers.

To assemble and showcase the ephemera, the catalogue was designed to be reminiscent of archival boxes used to store the collection in the museum. The flyleaves are decorated with patterns taken from the graphics in the collection and are printed on Favini Crush Corn Paper 120 g / m2.

Crush is the ecological range of Favini papers made using process residues from organic products to replace up to 15% of virgin tree pulp.

Crush Corn chosen by MAK for the cover and flyleaves of this catalogue is paper produced with residues of corn processing and is true to this theme of transformation of all too often discarded goods into beautiful and valuable materials.
