    The future of sachet packaging

    • FMP

The popularity of sachet packaging to consumers, due to its cleanliness, convenience and ability to keep contents fresh, has been mirrored in the pharmaceuticals industry.

Maybe this is due to the demand for different varieties in a small time frame, which sachet packaging providers can offer even on a single packaging line, thanks to easily integrated pouch systems. They offer a basic but efficient solution for packaging, as they make it easy to cater for a varied product range.

There is powerful machinery now capable of filling up to around 1000 packages per minute, so the problem of slow productivity is not an issue any longer. In the FMCG market, sachets are sometimes seen as a way to increase profit margins, due to the lower volumes needed to fill each package. In the medical world, this is not as much of a concern, but both sectors benefit from the speedy output now generated by the latest sachet packaging machines.

New modular systems have also allowed for improved accuracy as far as dosing is concerned, a crucial element in pharmaceuticals. For medicine which is often taken on the go, the sachet provides a fuss free alternative to bottles and boxes.

Industry experts forsee that as much as 50% of flexible packaging for pharmaceuticals will come in the form of a sachet or stick pack.

Rather than convenience of profit margin, the reason for this is probably purely health related. Sachets protect medicine from air and light, keeping the contents fresher for longer.
