Water-based Gravure Printing
This is a next generation printing technology which solves problems of conventional oil-based gravure printing, yet has the following advantages.
- More environmentally-friendly
- Higher definition gravure printing
- Utilizes water-based ink
- Improved cylinder making technology
- Film improvements creating practical solutions
Advantage of water-based gravure printing
Beautiful print reproduction
Water-based ink requires less ink than oil-based ink printing due to shallower depth etching in the cylinder. This increases the number of pixels and improve sharpness of image reproduction.
【Comparison of printing resolution】
Water-based Ink | Conventional Oil-based Ink |
---|---|
350 dots per inch = approx. 100,000 dots 3+ times the number of dots! |
175 dots per inch = approx. 30,000 dots |
Less residual odor in the package
Water-based gravure printing does not use oil or conventional organic solvent in the inks, instead using inks with a base of water and alcohol.
Solvents in ink vaporize during drying process during printing, but there is always some residual. By changing the major component to water, the printed materials tend to have less residual solvent and odor.
