Gepack, the Portuguese Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) packaging manufacturer, is the first and only company in the Iberian peninsula and the second in the European Union to have obtained the EN15593:2008 standard. The certificate is issued by TÜV Rheinland for fulfilling the requirement of "the standard Management of hygiene in the production of packaging for foodstuffs".
The EN15593:2008 is a European standard that defines the hygiene requirements required for the production of packaging for food. The standard arose from the need of producers of food packaging to show that they were able to demonstrate their ability in identifying and controling hazards related to hygiene in the manufacturing of food packaging products. The standard is based on HACCP principles.
Food and beverage packaging products are just one of Gepack's four principal business areas, along with Pharmaceutical and food supplements, Personal care and cosmetics, and Home and consumer products.
At the company's 6000m2 production facility, Gepack has an installed capacity of over 160 million PET bottles per year, taking responsiblity for the total production process from design through production. Over 200 bottle references are available with capacities from 5ml up to 5L in addition to the option of preparing customized bottle shapes for clients.
Gepack will be exhibiting at the CPhI and ICSE exhibition taking place in Frankfurt, Germany from 25th-27th October, 2011. They will be located at booth 40C61.
