TURNHOUT (B) – The Belgian printing company Grafische Groep Matthys has won an important international prize, the Swedish ‘Invercote Award 2015’. This is a recognition for the family business in the Campine for the special products it makes at its location in Turnhout, using the innovative in-line cold foil printing process.

Four category winners

The nominations in four categories, out of 76 entries from dozens of Belgian graphics companies, were announced during a gala evening in Brussels. Grafische Groep Matthys was nominated in the ‘Best Print’ category for a series of special printed greetings cards and in the ‘Best Design’ category for exclusive luxury folding carton packaging for saffron.

One overall winner

The nomination on the ‘Best Design’ category turned into a win for Matthys in that category. The overall winner of the ‘Invercote Award 2015’ from the four category winners was announced at the end of the evening, and this also went to the Grafische Groep Matthys from Turnhout. Brothers Pascal, Erik, Filip and Davy Matthys are the third generation to run the family business with its 26-strong workforce, which they have done since 2008.

Recognition for innovation

“This prize is a recognition for the special products made in Turnhout using the innovative in-line cold foil printing process. Using this technique we make luxury graphics products for clients throughout Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and France, with a small number of clients in Germany and the United Kingdom”, say the four brothers proudly. “We have recently invested in a high-quality die-cutting machine and a full folding/gluing line for the in-house processing of eye-catching folding carton packaging.”

Luxury packaging for saffron

As mentioned earlier, the exclusive folding carton packaging for saffron was the entry for which the jury awarded the prize to Grafische Groep Matthys. The design department of the Turnhout printing company created the luxury packaging for its client ‘Golden Result Saffron’ in the Netherlands. It was produced on Invercote cardboard using the in-line cold foil printing process and given a soft-touch lacquer finish.

The Invercote Award Belgium is an initiative by the Swedish companies Iggesund and Igepa Belux.
