At the beginning of March, the HEINZ-GLAS Group put a new glass melting furnace into operation at its Kleintettau location. The project was accompanied by investments of around 15 million euros - not a decision to be taken lightly in times of the global corona pandemic and a weakened world economy.

With this special new glass tank, HEINZ-GLAS is able to react flexibly to the most varied of market and customer requirements. The latest generation of electric tanks can produce high-quality perfumery glass, clear glass with a high proportion of PCR fragments, and opal glass. For more than 15 years, the opal glass in the Heinz group of companies has been produced exclusively at the Dzialdowo, Poland location. With this now possible again at one of the German locations, it opens up further options for the company to serve its customers.

“Technical progress, in particular, helps to overcome crises and create business opportunities. This takes a certain amount of courage to try something new, and then the necessary bit of luck are of course also part of it. ” - says owner and CEO Carletta Heinz.

As early as 1971, HEINZ-GLAS Kleintettau —at that time under the leadership of Carl-August Heinz— was the first company in the glass industry to put an electrically heated melting tank into operation at the Kleintettau location. At that time, it was viewed critically by the competition, which continued to fire with gas, but, the investment paid off and resulted in energy savings of around 50% compared to the gas tank. Now 50 years later, HEINZ-GLAS has developed into one of the most sustainable glass manufacturers in the world and this path continues through investment in the company's manufacturing facilities.
