Sunflowers are mostly grown in the fields of France or Bulgaria, where the largest cultivation areas for the production of sunflower seeds in Europe are located. The seeds are transported via ship to the hulling mills in Germany, where they are separated from their husks.

The seeds are then packed for the baking industry or pressed to high-quality sunflower seed oil and up until now the sunflower seed husks were burnt for energy production.

Hopf Packaging has transformed sunflower husks in its latest innovation for the cosmetic packaging industry, into an ecological packaging option for creams, making the German company the first in the world to offer this type of packaging to Beauty companies.

The material of the lid of the Sunflower cream jar and the outer part of the jar both consists of 35% sunflower seed husk, while the jar's inner comprises of PP to ensure product protection.  The lid is equipped with a seal insertion.

Hopf's sunflower jar can be decorated just as any jar made of ordinary plastic.

Sunflower seed husks are not used in the production of food and therefore do not compete with the food chain, furthermore, additional cultivation areas are not required. Sunflower seed husks are 100% bio-based and only hydropower "watergreen" is used for the production of the granulate, reinforcing its eco-credentials further.

Worldwide, this material has not been used for cosmetic packaging yet. Hopf is the first company to introduce sunflower husk packaging to the cosmetic packaging market.

Needless to say, the company also produces bottles from sustainable materials.
