For around a year now, Model AG in Weinfelden has been supplying climate-neutral packaging upon request. Moudon based Model Emballages SA is now the second plant in the Model Group to offer this service.

Closed cycles, avoiding waste in packaging development and the production process, a reduction in energy consumption, and more efficient processes, are the fundamental elements in the manufacture of climate-neutral packaging. Yet a comprehensive knowledge of the entire value chain is also required if this focus on sustainability is to have genuine benefits for the environment.

Analysis
To ensure transparency, the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions that arise in the production and transport of packaging and displays, as well as all other related carbon emissions, are recorded and investigated.
 

Reduction
The right combination and quantities of the factors of production – materials, logistics, and the manufacturing and recycling processes – enable resource use to be kept to a minimum.

Offsetting
The web-based CO2 calculator developed for Model AG by the climate protection consultancy ClimatePartner has been adapted in line with the needs of the Moudon plant. The calculator can be used to determine and transparently disclose the greenhouse gas emissions of any given order. Interested customers have the option of offsetting the CO2 emissions released in the manufacture of their packaging by supporting internationally recognized carbon offset projects, thus making for an effectively climate-neutral product.
