ROGER MONNÉ, SALES MANAGER, MOLPACK SL

Packaging innovation and design are the key behind relevant brand identities. In this interview with Roger Monné, Sales Manager at Molpack, we’ll explore the latest trends and challenges facing the beauty industry, as well as the magic that has allowed the company to maintain a strong reputation. Join along as we delve into Molpack's forward-looking strategies.

I think it’s a good idea to start with the first question brands must ask themselves before choosing a packaging partner: What makes Molpack unique as a company?

At Molpack, we pride ourselves on being specialists in the development of custom primary packaging solutions for the skincare, makeup, and fragrance markets. We have over 40 years of experience in the cosmetic field, and from the very beginning, we’ve been a brand-focused company committed to deliver absolute client satisfaction.

If I were to summarize it, I’d say our work is to translate ideas into functional, high-quality packaging solutions. But relevance is the backbone of our practice. That’s why our cosmetic packaging reflects the latest trends and meets the demanding quality standards of the beauty industry.

As I said, client satisfaction is our top priority. As a third-generation family-owned business, our approach is highly hands-on, ensuring that we’re deeply involved in every project. Being open, approachable, dedicated, and prepared are qualities passed down through generations and shared by the entire team.

We work in close collaboration with each client to develop the best possible personalized solutions that meet their unique needs and give shape to their personality. We go above and beyond to ensure that every detail is satisfactory.

When you say Molpack goes “above and beyond,” what does that mean in practice?

Our team has in-depth knowledge of packaging development, and we have a dedicated technical department that works alongside clients throughout the entire process. Each project represents a new pledge for us, one in which we fully engage, advising the client every step of the way to ensure a unique final product that delivers on every expectation. And, that step beyond I mentioned, can also be seen in our consulting services, as we help clients address any packaging challenges they might be facing.

You mentioned before your cosmetic packaging reflects the latest trends in the industry. How would you describe the main trends currently shaping the highly complex world of beauty packaging?

Today’s packaging market, especially in the beauty industry, is strongly influenced by two main factors: innovation and sustainability. A standout trend is the focus on sustainable solutions, particularly in finding materials that are both eco-friendly but and deliver high-end quality aesthetics. Though most customers might think it’s simple a switch, the truth is working with PCR (post-consumer recycled) materials can be challenging, especially when seeking to achieve the same polished finishes virgin materials offer.

Because brands need to deconstruct a reputation of having a negative impact on the environment, cosmetic and perfumery products find themselves in a growing need for an intersection between beauty and environmental responsibility. Tackling the gap head on, Molpack has made substantial R&D investments in recent years, focusing on the development of eco-conscious innovation.

Can you give us an example of some recent innovations at Molpack?

Sure. As I just said, our commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility has driven us to make significant investments in new packaging alternatives. These innovations, created in-house by our technical team, are designed with the medium to long term in mind. They are not only functional, secure, and user-friendly but also entirely customizable. As for our sustainability goals, we’ve invested heavily in recyclable and recycled materials, as well as refillable options.

M3R LINE

First, we have our M3R line, which was one of our most ambitious projects. This range was developed to unite four concepts—Mono-material, Recyclable, Recycled, and Refillable—within a single product line. Thanks to the dedication of our technical team, we successfully created two products that are fully customizable and recyclable, and available in up to 100% PCR materials. These are the M3R AIRLESS bottle and pump (with capacities of 50 ml and 100 ml) and the 50ml M3R JAR.

But for M3R AIRLESS, sustainability extends beyond material choices. These products were designed with fewer components, significantly reducing our carbon footprint. The range is comprised of just six parts, whereas similar products on the market often have eight to ten different pieces.

The M3R JAR stands as an elegant, sustainable solution made of three customizable parts:

  • A glass jar with exceptional transparency and a weighted base for a premium feel.
  • A PP inner lid with the option of an outer layer in either PP or PCR recycled PP.
  • A refillable PP insert, which can be made from up to 100% PCR materials, and its entirely up to client specifications.

The jar is easy to refill, thanks to a tabbed design that makes the used insert simple to remove and replace. The refill system allows consumers to enjoy a premium product while reducing waste. As I said, each piece is fully customizable, and the lid can be engraved and embossed, offering premium finishing options for brands.

ERGONOMIC TOTTLE RANGE

A second example is our new line of tottles. A favourite product among our clients, tottles are frequently requested for in the personal care industry. Seeing a great opportunity to enhance such a popular offer, we’ve developed a new ergonomic tottle that’s more environmentally friendly—completely recyclable and available in PCR materials. This new Oval Tottle range was also designed to improve delivery, reducing secondary packaging and optimizing the filling process, which helps minimize both the customer’s and our own carbon emissions.

You’ve talked about the different teams and their roles in the development process. Could you share some insights into your specific role at Molpack?
As Sales Manager, my primary role is to engage with and expand our client base both nationally and internationally, something I truly enjoy. Many of our clients have become close friends, and I’m grateful for the close, long-lasting relationships we’ve built. While driving sales is, of course, essential, I also focus on providing top-notch service.

Growing up, I saw the dedication my father, the CEO of Molpack, had toward clients, and from him, I learned that we don’t accept a “no.” At Molpack, we’re committed to finding solutions, regardless of their size and ambition. Our goal is to provide the best cost-effective solutions and build lasting partnerships.

Any final thoughts you’d like to share?

Yes. One that’s quite simple: our mission is to innovate together, and our goal is to be the go-to packaging partner for cosmetic and perfume brands.
