Mold-Rite Plastics (MRP) knows how to make an impact. In fact, the company knows many ways of ensuring that decorative caps and closures have been given the perfect finishing touch and will influence consumers to purchase a product over the myriad available at the shelf.
Many consumer surveys have been undertaken and shown that approximately two thirds of purchase decisions are made at the shelf and that consumers will sometimes buy a product off the shelf without researching it first. With this in mind, Mold Rite Plastics highlights its extensive decoration service available to emphasize products of every shape and size.
Embossing and debossing
Embossing and debossing can be produced on most closure styles with the appropriate tooling changes. Specific tool steel is procured to form the logo or lettering in plastic. The company has in-house tool build capabilities and the incorporation of a logo to a closure reinforces the brand's identity.
Tipping
Tipping is the transfer of a colored foil to an embossed closure by a flat, hot rubber die (consumable) which results in a high quality look. It requires a raised logo created by a mold insert to make an embossment that is stamped with the foil. One of the main benefits of tipping is that lighter tippling colors remain opaque even over darker base colors.
Hot stamping
Hot stamping is a dry printing process which benefits as it doesn't require any chemicals and can be done on a curved or domed surface (specific to the application). A colored foil is tranferred to a closure by an embossed, hot rubber die. Unlike tipping, the embossment is on the rubber die instead of in the cap mold. The logo design is cut into a consumable rubber die, which can stamp any color foil to the cap. Color opacity can be achieved on a dark colored cap, even with a light colored logo.
Offset Printing
The process of offset printing utlizes 2 rollers to transfer ink (artwork) to flat caps and jars. The ink is transferred from a flat roller to an embossed logo on a second roller which then transfers the ink artwork to the jar or closure. Through the use of multiple rollers, multi-colored images can be printed.
This is a popular choice of printing as offset printing offers the lowest raw material costs due to the cost of ink being relatively low. Furthermore, as a relatively high production rate can be achieved, it has the lowest conversion cost.
Mold-Rite Plastics offers up to 4 colors on flat caps and jars.
Highlighting
Kiss printing as highlighting is often referred to as, is the transfer of a colored ink to an embossed cap by printing rollers. It's a less costly version of 'tipping'. A mold insert is used to create the embossment which is then 'rolled over' through an offset printing machine.
Screen printing
Silk screen printing is so named as the decoration technique is made by the application of ink through a silk screen. The result is a high quality image with fine print that is clearly legible as the ink is raised slightly from the surface. The ink used for the process is thick and opaque to ensure that whatever the color printed, there is no chance of other colors showing through.
MRP has a screen printing service which offers up to 2 colors on both caps and jars.
Digital printing
Ink jet spray heads can be used to print on a closure. Ink jet or digital printing is most commonly used for promotional or small run quantities as product coding. MRP currently offers alphanumeric coding in random, sequential or with pre-set promotional codes.
Mold-Rite Plastics is continually expanding its commitment to add extra value through the provision of an expanded product portfolio, multiple manufacturing locations, in-house tooling, outstanding innovation and decoration services as well as unmatched flexibility and responsiveness.
