In response to the proposed CPSC guidelines (Consumer Product Safety Commission) that were unveiled in early 2012, Neopac has launched a number of initiatives to be prepared for the market needs of Child Resistance including additional fill levels, and a unit dose concept for one-time use.
The first initiative was to test and certify a 25 mm diameter C-R cap with a Polyfoil® tube (20–45ml fill) that has been on the European market for some years. Beyond this 25 mm diameter tube, Neopac foresaw the need for larger sizes: A pilot tool was built for a 50–75ml fill level (30 mm diameter) and a 80–125ml fill level (40 mm diameter). These tubes were tested and certified too.
Unit Dose Twist’n’Use™ C-R
Although the main focus has been the multi-use format, Neopac has developed the Polyfoil Twist’n’Use C-R tube for unit dose applications. The concept behind this tube is that small fill size solutions have a need to be used only once. For this tube to meet the unit dose concept, the Polyfoil® tube’s orifice is sealed. But with a twist of the cap (it remains on the tube) the product can be dispensed to a very specific area. It was recognized that there will be a need for Child Resistance in this market so a C-R closure was designed and developed at our R&D center in Switzerland. This C-R unit dose package is available in a 13.5 mm (4–6ml fill) diameter and a 16 mm (7–10ml fill) diameter Polyfoil Twist’n’Use tube. Testing of all the C-R tubes was performed by an outside Lab ivm (Institut Verpackungs Marktforschung) in the late Spring of 2012. Certification of all the above C-R tubes was issued in July, 2012.
Latest development: C-R nozzle tip
Not to be satisfied with these options, Neopac is currently developing a multi-use C-R package for the products that use our M-6 nozzle tip neck design. The in house proprietary design of this cap has been completed with the initial samples available for testing. Neopac is excited about the completion of this development and look forward to getting it certified in the near future.
