To highlight a few, there were two PP28 child resistant closures, and the innovative SealSafe component which created a lot of traction.

The Origin team flew out to Barcelona on Sunday 2nd October to prepare for three action-packed days full of pre-booked appointments, new conversations around exciting new partnerships and to show the global pharmaceutical industry the packaging innovations the company are launching.

The Origin Pharma Packaging brand delivered its message: excellence in child resistant packaging design and ensured that the audience was engaged fully around the expertise of Origin Pharma Packaging within pharmaceutical packaging design and innovation.

Origin's stand was specifically designed to create an experience and an innovation journey through the packaging designs present. The beginning of the journey was represented by one of our 3D printers from our dedicated 3D printing department. It captured the imagination of stand visitors and showed how our PILOT (primary packaging Design Process) delivers a 3D print of the packaging design before the design goes to pilot and commercial tooling – thus saving large costs on edits and errors if sent to tooling phase.

There were 8 packaging innovation cabinets:

Cabinet 1) PP28 Child Resistant Closure – lightest cap (reduced polymer) making it the lightest closure on the market.
Cabinet 2) PP28 Child Resistant Closure, Integrated Torque-On Beaker – pre-fitted beaker, erasing beaker install on the packing line.
Cabinet 3) SealSafe – innovative advanced moulded valve technology
Cabinet 4) Pilot Process – Origin's Pharmaceutical Packaging Design Process
Cabinet 5) Unopac, Medopac & Cubopac – unique UV marking for traceability with child resistant (compliant) closures.
Cabinet 6) Innovation cabinet – An innovation in powder dispensing into liquid.
Cabinet 7) – V Vial technology


The innovations on the Origin Pharma Packaging stand were concentrated on the expertise of the company; child resistant design. There were many conversations around assisting companies in redesigning their current packaging to become child resistant. The NPD department have the ability to mould into a client's NPD department to enable cross-pollination of ideas and create the optimum design.

CPhI Barcelona created an opportunity to launch two innovations around the PP28 child resistant closure. The first development of the two child resistant closure innovations is a lightweight closure that can accept any liner available in the marketplace and is officially the lightest of its kind. There has been in-depth research and analysis into the reduction of material (polymer) and increases sustainability for the client's packaging formation.

The lightweight closure is the most flexible when it comes to adjusting itself to different types of dosage devices. Allowing a pharmaceutical company to reduce cost, as the new PP28 lightweight closure has a universal design and can adapt.

The patent pending PP28 Child Resistant Closure with Integrated Torque-On Beaker, which erases beaker installation on the packing line, was received very well, allowing companies to understand that they can save cost on their packing lines. The new torque on Beaker design is pre-fitted and supplied into the filling site as one piece (attached to the closure). The development has been created due to a major international pharma company having serious issues with the beaker falling off the closure/ bottle when turned on its side and then being pushed into the box.

The design pushes the boundaries of the typical closure, however it allows for reduction in the packaging process which is reducing time, increasing speed and more importantly reducing cost.

The Origin team represented a number of departments from around the globe from NPD, to quality, to our technical team. This allowed visitors visiting the stand to ask any questions around the pharmaceutical packaging process from design to technical amendments on their current packaging formations.

The team have already begun new partnerships to assist in new pharmaceutical packaging designs and supporting/advising around child resistant design.
