The United Nations Global Compact initiative proposes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that lay out a path to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice and protect our planet. Quadpack has now designated the four SDGs where, as a beauty packaging provider, it can have the greatest impact.
- Affordable and clean energy (SDG No 7)
Quadpack has fully converted to 100% renewable energy at its three Spanish factories and head office, saving more than 1,400 tons of CO2 over the last year. At the Quadpack Wood factory, an executive project has been completed that will see sawdust waste be converted to energy for heating and cooling. The possibility of powering all production at the factory with solar energy is also being studied.
- Decent work and economic growth (SDG No 8)
On-going training and education in worker’s rights, anti-corruption frameworks and ethical business practices are now a fact of life at Quadpack. What’s more, the company asks all its suppliers to commit to the same principles through a Supplier Code of Conduct, which partners must sign if they wish to do business with the company.
- Responsible consumption and production (SDG No 12)
Quadpack Manufacturing Division is continually striving to improve its 'World Class' OEE (overall equipment efficiency) and minimise reject rates. As part of this goal, Quadpack Plastics is partnering with the technology centre Leitat to repurpose waste by-product into new packaging material. At Quadpack Wood, 100% of production waste is recycled into animal bedding, chipboard and biofuel.
- ‘Life on Land’ (SDG No 15)
All Quadpack factories are implementing Environmental Management Systems. Quadpack Wood has an emission control system that exceeds regulatory requirements, while raw material is PEFC and FSC certified, which ensures that it is sourced from forests that are managed sustainably, with an emphasis on family- and community-run forests.
Quadpack joined the UN Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, in March 2018. "As our company grows, logically so does our impact. Our work in these four key goals will help our efforts to ensure a positive impact wherever we operate, and forms the backbone of our long-term CSR strategy," said Quadpack CSR Director Alex San Miguel. "We are proud to be part of this UN initiative and encourage all players in the beauty business - a giant, global industry that touches lives in every corner of the planet - to work towards a sustainable future."
