Whether you bottle beers, wines or spirits, you ask for a capsule or sleeve of aesthetic beauty to dress the bottle neck, eye catching enough to stand out from the shelf. If you pack foods, cosmetics or pharmaceutical products, you seek security through the supply chain, so tamper evidence and anti counterfeit measures are the priority.
Colours and decoration are restricted only by your imagination and finishes include metallic, satin and matt surface textures. UV sensitive inks can be used to print Tin, Polylaminate and PVC capsules. A wide range of capsule sizes are available to suit bottles used for packaging still or sparkling wines and spirits. A capsule or sleeve can be a thing of aesthetic beauty, a purely functional device or a combination of both. The choice is yours…
Tin Capsule
For super premium, luxury pack formats and used extensively for spirits packaging. One piece capsule made by a deep drawing & punching process using high grade rolled tin @99.95% purity. The heavy metal content of our capsules is less than 50 parts per trillion. The capsule can be side printed in your choice of colours and the top can be embossed and printed. A new generation of highly scuff resistant inks comply with the most demanding heavy metal regulations. Rip Pull tear devices facilitate ease of opening whilst the decorated portion of the skirt remains on the bottle.
Polylaminate Capsule
These capsules combine beauty and quality with simplicity of use and an attractive price point. The skirt is a composite material combining 2 layers of aluminium with a polyethylene layer between. A top disc of aluminium foil is applied and the finished capsule exudes a soft tin-like quality. The capsule skirt can be ink printed and hot foil stamped and the top can be printed and embossed. The tear device includes options of a protruding Tear Tab or Rip Pull cut-a-way. A wide range of sizes available to suit bottles for still and sparkling wines, spirits
PVC or PET Capsule
The heath shrink capsule provides a cost effective solution for users with multiple product lines and price points. It is also ideal to meet high volume requirements and high speed bottling capabilities. A good choice for applications requiring tamper evidence and with the advent of UV sensitive inks, anti counterfeit measures can be enabled. Made from PVC or PET film with a top disc of aluminium foil. The capsule skirt can be ink printed and hot foil stamped and the top can be printed and embossed. The tear device includes options of a protruding Tear Tab or perforations.
PVC or PET Sleeve
Similar to a heatshrink capsule but the sleeve comes without a top disc. Potential uses extend through wines & spirits to foods and pharmaceutical applications where tamper evidence and anti counterfeit measures are critical to performance. Made from PVC or PET film, the sleeve is pre-formed to suit a particular bottle, jar or container shape thereby optimising dimensions with fit, function and performance. The sleeve can be decorated in the same way as the heat shrink capsule skirt. Vertical and horizontal perforations allow for ease of removal and part of the sleeve can be retained on the pack for informative or decorative purposes. Available on reel form or ready cut to size.
Champagne Capsule
Capsules designed specifically for champagne and sparkling wine bottles. Made of a laminated material formed by two layers of aluminium and one layer of polyethylene between. Various decoration techniques allow for embossing, printing and or hot foil stamping.
With our own cork forests, our `natural’ inclination is towards natural cork. However, we recognise that our customers require a wider choice and nowadays, closure selection is as much as anything determined by wine type, style and price point.
Our product range has been designed to equip those who are seeking to extend shelf life, retain fruit flavour, reduce random oxidation and present their wines in the best possible quality.
Made to order or delivered from stock, all Rankin supplied natural corks are washed in a hydrogen peroxide based solution which disenfects and allows for a deep pore clean. The corks are waxed coated to lock in moisture, protect the surface and ease insertion during bottling……please speak to our Technical Sales Team for further advice.
Natural Cork
“Best in Class”, the natural cork stopper is recommended for quality still wines and is used by producers wanting to keep it 100% natural! The cylindrical stopper is obtained by punching through strips of raw cork with automated machines. Our range of grades extends from Extrafine through to Superior, No.1 and down to No.4.
Colmate Cork
Lower grade natural cork with a greater number of lentinels or pores. The corks are treated with a mix of fine cork powder, natural latex and wax products to fill the pores, seal the surface of the cork and improve it’s performance.
nanocork™
Innovative, high performance closure designed for wines which require a low oxygen transfer (OTR) and have low susceptibility to reduction. The nanocork™ combines the advantages of natural cork with the remarkable power of the Bacchus Barrier; the barrier regulates oxygen flow to 0.0026cc/day per cork, whilst preventing off flavours from spoiling the wine.
1+1
Combining the prestige of natural cork with the advantages of agglomerate cork. 2 high quality natural cork discs are sealed to the ends of an extruded, agglomerate cork body.
Agglomerate
Carefully calibrated and selected cork granules, combined with food safe binding materials, makes the agglomerate cork an effective, low cost alternative.
Champagne Cork
An agglomerate body, sealed at one end with 2 natural cork discs; designed specifically to meet the needs of sparkling wine producers.
Synthetic
A superior synthetic closure. A single-extrusion manufacturing process, allows for a consistent and even cell structure and it confers an elasticity second only to cork. For added value, the ends of the closure can be embossed and the side can be printed with the winery motif or a design of your choice. Special colours available but subject to minimum lots.
Screw cap
For convenience, we’ve taken this proven and effective technical solution and enhanced it further with the option of embossed decoration to the cap. UV sensitive ink can be used for printing, as part of anti-counterfeit measures.
Crown Caps for Beer, Cider, Champagne, RTDs and soft drinks…… Screw Caps for wines and spirits.

You’ve told us that you want your beer to arrive at your customer in the same first class condition as it was when it left the brewery. What you don’t want is beer all over the floor…all for the sake of a cheap bung!
Our shives and keystones are rigorously tested to strict performance criteria in order to reduce the risk of blow outs and leakers; no mean feat when you consider the variation in cask and keg types. A continuous development programme enables the supply of the most innovative, high quality closures and at the best value too. We’ve a good chance of matching you up with the most ideal closure whether you use wood, stainless steel, aluminium or plastic containers. We’ve a wide range of products for both craft and volume brewer alike….our Technical Sales Team will guide you through the range.
Wood Shives
more commonly compressed as this allows the bung to swell on contact with the liquid providing a tight seal. Sizes range between 2” and 2.1/2” with the most popular being 2.1/16” diameter. Turned shives are also available in the same size range.
Plastic Shives
a wide range includes ribbed shives, long tailed shives and the banded shive. The banded shive comes in 3 sizes, each tailored to a specific range of cask types or to the method of application. The banded shive is popular for high volume users where application and removal has been automated
Wood Keystones
available in 2 sizes: No.1 and No.2 manufactured in limewood
Plastic Keystones
No.1 and No.2 size variants available. Thermoplastic materials are used for those that apply the keystone into a hot cask and fill quickly thereafter. A lower cost LDPE variant is available, strictly for those who fill cold casks.
Spiles, Corks & Cask Sundry Items
Hard Spiles in wood or plastic and soft `porous’ spiles in cane allow the publication to vent, dispense and manage beer quality through to the last drop inside the container.
Clip Corks can be used to plug the keystone hole after dispense, preventing any residuals in the cask from spilling when the container is collected
Used mostly by bottlers of whiskies, brandies, rums, gins and vodkas. Increasingly popular amongst producers of oils, marinades and other liquid or food products.
The best grades of natural cork tend to be selected for the super premium brands but micro agglomerate and synthetic shanks are part of the wider offer. The shanks can be assembled to your choice of wood, plastic, metal or composite top.
Metal Top
for super premium, luxury pack formats, where value not cost matters. Die cast zinc alloy tops, polished, sprayed to colour or plated in precious metals; gold & silver. The top can be further enhanced by enamelling. These hand crafted stoppers exude quality and help reinforce the provenance of the brand.
Wood Top
uniquely, Rankin uses its own plant to manufacture wood tops exclusively for Rankin customers. Available in plain lacqueurs or tints to highlight the beauty of the grain beneath or in solid colours to match other elements of the pack. Further quality cues can be achieved by a combination of pad print, foil stamp, emboss or engraving.
Plastic Top
more commonly moulded in styrene, this lower cost option is preferred by those with a strict budget in mind. A range of non-proprietary, plain black T-Top stoppers is available from stock. Otherwise we can make to order in a colour of your choice and add print, emboss or engraving to meet the design brief.
Composite Top
our design team can assist in the development of a multi part top combining elements made from metal, wood and plastic and featuring a myriad of decoration techniques from engraving to enamelling.
