Cooperation with a natural cosmetics start-up: Packaging specialists develop a new concept for Coscoon Cosmetics

    • RLC Packaging Group

Several packaging industry partners have joined forces to launch a new alliance supporting the Coscoon Cosmetics beauty brand. The rlc | packaging group, brandpack, BillerudKorsnäs, Fixum Creative Technology and VerDeSoft are working together on the development of a holistic packaging concept for Coscoon Cosmetics. The natural cosmetics supplier has been on the market since 2016.

"We were impressed by Coscoon's unusual and intelligently executed product idea," explains rlc | packaging group Managing Partner Stephan Bestehorn. "As a comprehensive system supplier, we have the wide-ranging experience necessary to develop the optimal packaging concept for the young brand. We then joined forces with other value-chain partners for the project implementation."

Working together with brandpack (packaging design), BillerudKorsnäs (cartonboard), Fixum Creative Technology (alternative packaging closure solutions) and VerDeSoft (consulting and engineering), rlc encourages know-how transfer and supports the startup in executing its innovative product ideas faster and, in doing so, significantly shortening the time to market.

The Cooperation between the companies spawned a new concept for the future. Under the "Packaging Angels" concept, rlc is planning to work with its partners to support other start-up companies with future-oriented ideas.

According to Bestehorn, "This enables us to significantly shorten the time to market for product concepts. It also helps start-ups avoid the mistakes they often make due to a lack of packaging experience. At the same time, we can learn from thinking outside the product box. This clearly demonstrates the value of packaging when it comes to product marketing."

    Natural cosmetics mixed at home

The Coscoon concept is based on DIY (do it yourself) cosmetics. Coscoon DIY kits contain everything consumers need to make their own organic beauty products: ingredients, instructions, molds, spatulas, hygienic gloves and labels. The company exclusively uses high-quality oils, butter and other raw materials from certified organic sources. All products are prepared fresh in small batches – and thus require no preservatives.

Featuring a unique look, the packaging for the DIY kits reflects the Coscoon brand values: pure, clear and sustainable. brandpack, the packaging design agency, created the graphic design for the kits as well as for the labels produced by the closure experts at Fixum Creative Technology.

The overall package construction, including the outer packaging and separate DIY molds, is designed and developed by rlc. VerDeSoft, a packaging services provider, further optimized the overall packaging appearance in terms of sustainability aspects.

The concept aims at replacing most of the plastic parts in the current packaging with cartonboard and creating new options for recycling. Sustainability also plays a key role in the selection of cartonboard material.

The Swedish manufacturer BillerudKorsnäs regards eco-sustainability as an integral part of the value chain and sources its raw materials from sustainably managed forests. Artisan, the special cartonboard used for the packaging, can be reprocessed in many different ways and is ideally suited for rlc packaging production.

The new DIY kits are expected to be in the Coscoon online shop by April 2017 in time for Easter shopping.
