NYLON is an incredibly versatile material, and Sirane’s Siralon range offers answers as a food packaging solution and in medical & healthcare and industrial applications.
Sirane’s nylon food packaging range of bags and films for the oven, microwave or sous-vide allows food to be potentially packed, shipped, sold and cooked in the same packaging.
The Sira-Cook™ Siralon absorbent bag/film range is a unique nylon packaging solution for meat, fish and poultry or even vegetables which can even be run down a flow-wrapper.
Jeremy Haydn-Davies, sales director, said: “Siralon nylon packaging is a great solution to a common food packaging problem – namely how to package food for retail in a way that works well not only for the producer/packer and retailer but also for the consumer.
“Nylon offers all that – not only can food be packed, shipped and sold in a pack that looks and feels good, has a good barrier, and is very durable, but the food cooks beautifully.
“A roasted joint of meat cooked in a nylon pack comes out beautifully succulent and tender. No moisture is lost, no flavours are lost, it browns the meat – and it even cooks quicker.”
Siralon has three grades on offer – Siralon 10, Siralon 12 and Siralon 21.
Siralon 10 is temperature resistant up to 180OC and offers flow-wrap films or bags for microwave/low temperature cooking such as steaming packs, sous-vide etc.
Siralon 12 bags are perfect for roasting joints of meat, poultry, whole fish etc and are perfect for retailers looking to pack, ship, sell and cook the product in one package.
Siralon 21 offers a flow-wrap material/bags for whole joints of meat, poultry or whole fish. The easy-to-seal nylon material is strong, offers good clarity, offers a good barrier and can be vacuum packed. Siralon 21 is temperature resistant up to 210OC.
Nylon has many other uses, including in the medical and healthcare industry and industrial.
Sirane Medical & Healthcare offers nylon autoclaving/sterilisation bags and pouches – the cleanliness and high temperature resistance of nylon makes it ideal for this purpose. Sirane Industrial division offers nylon products including bitumen bags, and both divisions offer strong and durable nylon biohazard waste bags suitable for incineration.
Jonathan Mason, business development manager, said: “Nylon has very high temperature resistance - much higher than many other materials on the market - which means it can be used for high-temperature oven-roasting, sterilisation etc. However, it can also be filled hot. This means nylon can be used in industrial food applications, where hot-fill is required, and also in industries such as road building for transporting products such as bitumen.
“Nylon offers an excellent barrier - whether you’re wanting to keep something contained in the packaging (such as odour, flavour) or out of the packaging (such as air), nylon is perfect.
“Not only is nylon a great material to work with & handle - it is very pliable and very easy to work with, but it is also very clean. Nylon is a very stable material, it won’t taint the contents or leach, an important requirement for food packaging and vital in the medical industry.”
Nylon can be supplied in various colours, printed, and has excellent clarity. It is a strong material, with robust seals, and can offer a cost-effective solution for many industries.
Industries that use nylon-based products include the automotive industry (sound suppression), soil gathering & analysis, hot-food take-aways, the aerospace industry, films for use with carbon mouldings in the boating industry, and firework manufacturers...
