Thinfilm
Thinfilm is the global leader in the development and commercialization of printed electronics and smart systems.
We print electronics, using processes and techniques that are, in many ways, similar to those used to print newspapers and magazines. This approach allows us to produce electronic components and integrated systems in ultra-high volumes and at low unit-costs. For many large-scale applications, printed electronics technology is a compelling alternative to traditional silicon.
It’s this unique combination of scale and affordability that enables Thinfilm to deliver on its mission to make everyday object just smart enough. In doing so, we are effectively extending the traditional boundaries of the Internet of Things to help create the Internet of Everything.
Thinfilm has a long history, and traces its beginnings back to the mid 1990’s when it partnered with Intel to jointly develop polymer-based memory devices and silicon-based control circuitry. The Company was restructured in 2005, and from 2006 onward concentrated its efforts on printed electronics. In 2013, Thinfilm commercially launched the industry’s first printed rewritable memory – Thinfilm Memory™ – and two years later licensed the technology to Xerox Corp. for mass production.
In early 2014, Thinfilm purchased the IP and assets of Kovio, Inc., a technology leader that manufactured electronic devices based on a proprietary printed-silicon electronics platform. Post-acquisition, Thinfilm established the NFC Innovation Center in the heart of Silicon Valley. Just over a year later, the Company launched its flagship technology, NFC OpenSense™, at Mobile World Congress 2015 and unveiled the Johnnie Walker Blue Label® “smart bottle” in collaboration with Diageo, the world’s largest spirits company.
Today, Thinfilm works with more than a dozen Forbes 2000 and equivalently-sized brand and packaging firms. These leading organizations span a range of verticals, including the wine and spirits, cosmetics, pharma, medical devices, tobacco, and other high-volume consumer packaged goods.
Thinfilm is a publicly listed Norwegian company (OL:THIN; OTCQX:TFECY) with headquarters in Oslo, Norway; product development and production in Linköping, Sweden; product development, production, and business development in San Jose, California, USA; and sales offices in the United States, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
