Pop-up books and even pop-up cards have become increasingly popular lately because of their interactivity and element of surprise. We're a great source for projects like these with deep experience in manufacturing a wide variety of techniques.
If you're looking to produce your own pop-up, keep in mind there are several types to consider, each with their own advantages and disadvantages.
The 90 Degree Pop-Up
The 90° pop-up is so named because the pop-up is activated when the book or card opens to 90°. In fact, it doesn't open any further. This style is the easiest to design and least expensive to manufacture, but it lacks the "wow" factor found in other styles. This can be compensated for slightly by adding moving components to the pages like sliders and doors, but keep in mind these also add cost. Still, the simple 90° pop-up is a good choice when low price point is the primary marketing concern.
The 180 Degree Pop-Up
If your project emphasizes content and has a little bigger budget, the 180° pop-up is a good choice. It is the most common and versatile of the styles. The pop-up is activated fully when opened to 180°. Scenes can become quite dimensional, and since they can be viewed from all angles, double-sided printing should be considered.
Multi-Fold Pop-Ups
Unlike pop-ups that activate with the turning of a page, multi-fold pop-up techniques are built by interacting with the page itself. These designs can create amazing pop-ups that really pull children into the fantasy of the story and let the book double as a toy for creative play.
Add-on Pop-Ups
Sliders, doors, and spinners can be added to any of the styles of pop-ups, or even to simple board books. This is a great way to add an additional layer of interest.
