Berry Global’s factory in Llantrisant, Wales, which produces high-quality plastic bottles and containers for the personal care, healthcare, food and beverage, homecare, and commercial sectors, has been awarded Valpak’s Zero Waste to Landfill Certification.
The accreditation provides independent confirmation that none of the business’s waste, including production, hazardous, and packaging, goes to landfill. It also confirms Berry Llantrisant’s commitment to continual improvement in the areas of waste reduction, recycling, and diversion.
The Zero Waste to Landfill achievement is the result of a co-ordinated operation across the Llantrisant site to deal with the waste generated from its manufacturing processes, as well as its offices and canteen. Special systems ensure waste is effectively sorted and segregated by polymer type and colour to aid inhouse regrind and recycling processes.
The site is also a member of Operation Clean Sweep, which aims to reduce pellet loss to the environment from plastic conversion operations.
Full waste training, including site inductions for new team members and toolbox talks as refreshers for existing personnel, ensures the continued education and commitment of all employees.
The Valpak inspection report highlighted in particular that Berry Llantrisant had achieved a very high recycling rate of 81%. It also noted that the company had demonstrated a thorough understanding of how to make further improvements to waste management on site.
“The Valpak certification is a significant achievement that underlines our commitment and capabilities in the important area of effective waste management,” commented Rob Jones, Plant Manager at Berry Llantrisant.
“Through our comprehensive environmental policies, we will deliver on our own sustainability commitments as well as help our customers achieve and exceed their sustainability goals, as outlined in our Berry Global Impact 2025 sustainability strategy.”
