From Finnish woods to the world – drinks at McDonald’s in the Nordics are served from Huhtamaki’s cups

Cold drinks at McDonald’s restaurants in Finland are served from cups made at Huhtamaki’s factory in Hämeenlinna. The McDonald’s cups have a new, international look.

Cold drinks in other Nordic McDonald’s restaurants are also served from Huhtamaki’s cups: the Hämeenlinna factory delivers cups to restaurants in Sweden, Norway and Denmark alike.

The cups are made of PEFC certified paperboard, manufactured by Stora Enso in Finland. The PEFC certification verifies that the raw material used for the paperboard is sourced from sustainably managed forests.

McDonald’s restaurants in Finland and food and drink packaging specialist Huhtamaki have partnered for a long time: cooperation in Finland began in 1987. Globally Huhtamaki delivers packaging to McDonald’s restaurants in over 30 countries. In addition to cups, Huhtamaki supplies McDonald’s restaurants with a number of other items such as lids, wraps, boxes and take away bags. The product range varies between countries.

Waitrose & Partners launches its Italian ready meal range in the new fiber-based tray suited for both microwave and regular ovens. The new trays, called Fresh, are manufactured by the global food packaging specialist Huhtamaki, packed at Saladworks and the fiber used as the base material comes from the Swedish forest company Södra. The trays can be recycled, and they are also certified for home composting.

Huhtamaki opens a paper straw manufacturing facility in Northern Ireland

The facility is located in the town of Antrim, near Belfast, and it is expected to employ approximately 100 people over the next few years. New tray design reduces egg breakage in Brazil’s demanding conditions

Our Brazilian Fiber Packaging team co-developed a new egg-tray for 30 eggs, Multi-E. Using an existing new product as a base for development, they made it better suited for the specific needs in Brazil. Within the project, our team also came up with a new raw material recipe.

Waitrose adopts fiber based ready meal packaging

Starting in October 2018 an extended trial version of a fiber-based, renewable, ready meal packaging will be piloted with customers in the UK. Huhtamaki is part of a three-party consortium developing an alternative to existing black plastic ready meal trays.

Huhtamaki invests in a new manufacturing facility in Hämeenlinna, Finland

Huhtamaki is investing approximately EUR 11 million to have a new manufacturing facility built in Hämeenlinna, Finland. Manufacturing operations will be transferred from the current facility that has been built in the 60's to a new, modern facility. Construction work is planned to begin during spring 2018 and the new facility is expected to begin operations in spring 2019.
