It's a very busy time at Olive Packaging's factory right now. The company is leading the GlassPolymer bottle and jar trend in the Asian region, as it is the only company able to offer full product family lines as well as timely deliveries both to customers in Asia as well as around the world. Webpackaging was able to speak to the company's President, Brian Lee.

Brian, how is business for Olive Packaging at the moment?

We're incredibly busy right now. There has been a major interest from China in Korean products and we have been benefiting from that with our exports seeing a significant increase.

Because China doesn't have GlassPolymer products and we are the major player in Asia that produces these lines, we are working flat out to fulfil orders. There are 1 or 2 other companies that produce this type of product, but we are the only company that can offer ranges of standard models, therefore it is a big benefit for brands as they are able to choose and source their full line from us.

What are the benefits of sourcing a GlassPolymer full line from Olive Packaging?

Our standard lines all feature different model bottles and jars in a range of sizes and volumes. We have 4 major lines: Monaco, Boston, NewYork and Sydney as well as some smaller lines that are currently just bottle ranges.

A GlassPolymer bottle, for example, looks just like a glass bottle but the GlassPolymer is actually plastic and weighs a third less than glass. This means that it is safer being shatter resistant and also cost effective, yet it maintains the thick wall look that glass has.

When a brand wants to update its packaging with a new look, our GlassPolymer products are available in a variety of options and can be supllied in colors as well as translucent. We've also got a special finished look option for companies that want their lines to have a frosted look. Furthermore, we have an excellent range of droppers, caps, sprays and pumps. Obviously these have their functional benefits, but they can also transform the look of a product too.

So, when a brand is updating its range, all of Olive Packaging's available options make our lines into a very interesting proposition.

Do you have a typical customer?

No we don't have a typical customer, although we have noted that a number of smaller sized companies have been ordering our products in especially large quantities. Our GlassPolymer products are ideal options for the beauty and personal care markets. We can offer dropper bottles for serums, cream jars, pumps bottles for viscous liquids and spray bottles too. Our products are suitable for many different applications.

GlassPolymer is FDA approved as being chemically safe for most ingredients, so there is no problem with formulation compatibility. Our customers also like that our production time is quite fast and we're able to provide orders in 8-9 weeks compared to other companies that can deliver in 11-12 weeks.

Is the company working on anything new?

We're working on a new standard model of bottles, called "Scandia". The line is currently being developed and will be a collection of 10 bottles. Molding is ongoing with a view to release the range to the market this summer.

How long does it take to develop a new line?

Once the design is complete, we can make the molds and do trial samples in one month. We then present the new options to our customers.

How can potential customers see new lines?

We participate annually at both Cosmoprof Bologna and Hong Kong and the new Scandia range will be on display with us in Hong Kong later this year as the official launch of the new line.

Also, we have an agent in the United States that is very active at packaging events too. So, our products are also available to view in the US at LuxePack and Cosmoprof ensuring that new customers can always see our best new offerings.

Olive Packaging's customized tooling project: Urban Eco

The SAEM's Urban Eco project is just one of the many successful products designed and produced by Olive Packaging. Comprised of PETG, the HEB process has created containers with a thick wall and bottom whose clarity mimics that of a glass bottle yet has only a third of the weight when compared to glass. The PETG bottle offers a shatter-proof packaging with excellent chemical resistance. Furthermore, when compared to ordinary PET packaging it is 5-10 times heavier offering a far bolder, more sophisticated visual impact.
