Rigid box specialist Pollard Boxes has invested nearly £300,000 in enhancements to its design, manufacturing and testing facilities.

A key highlight is the establishment of a new Design and Innovation Hub at the company’s Leicester headquarters to help support, speed up and develop customer projects.  In addition, Pollard has installed a new casemaker and a range of climatic and transit testing equipment.

Pollard’s Design and Innovation Hub will provide essential support to customers by providing the constructional expertise to turn initial designs into finished packs that can be manufactured cost-effectively.  Equally important, it will enable Pollard to proactively develop ideas and techniques to help customers introduce innovative new concepts.  The hub features the latest CAD and plotting equipment supported by Kasemake software.

The new Kolbus DA 260 Casemaker can construct Cases/Jackets with up to seven pieces of board, and has been installed to meet increasing demand for front opening packs in the drinks sector for effective on-shelf display.

Pollard is also enhancing its quality control procedures with the upgrading of its testing facilities and the installation of a variety of new equipment to confirm its boxes’ ability to withstand different environments and the demands of the supply chain.  Machines installed include an ink rub tester, a programmable temperature and humidity chamber, an ageing oven, a compression tester and a simulator transport table.

“We are continuing to see strong demand for our products and services across several key markets, in particular the luxury sector,” comments Pollard Boxes’ commercial director Peter Conner.

“The launch of our Design and Innovation Hub and the investment in new equipment will ensure we are able to deliver the highest levels of service and support to our growing customer base.”

This latest investment follows Pollard’s acquisition of leading presentation packaging manufacturer Clarke Rubicon in June last year.
