Geraldiscos, which is part of Tekni-Plex’s Tri-Seal business, was recently honored with a gold Brazilian Packaging Association (ABRE) award in the technology category for its induction seal liner featuring a venting system.
“We are very honored to have had our vented induction seal liner win the top award in the technology category. Our company has been providing technologically advanced packaging solutions to the South American marketplace for more than 50 years. We are driven to provide solutions that solve problems for demanding packaging applications,” said Gabriel Sahyao Leal Dos Santos, general manager.
The Geraldiscos vented multilayer liner system provides a simple but technologically-advanced solution for controlling differential pressure within a package. Liquids, powders and granular products can emit or consume significant gas when packaged. If the container does not allow free airflow and the gases cannot be released, the package may swell, collapse, leak or even explode. Temperature and altitude changes that occur during transportation and storage can also cause extreme pressure changes, often resulting in leakage and product contamination.
An additional benefit of using a vented induction seal is the cost savings associated with the ability to use a lighter bottle. Because the gas can escape, the need for a thicker sidewall is eliminated.
The vented liner is ideal for food or beverage packaged products and agricultural chemicals. Additionally it can be used for products with low surface tension fluids such as oils, detergents, surfactants, foliars, etc.
An annual event since 2001, this year’s ABRE award competition had approximately 400 entries. The judging committee for the competition is comprised of respected and renowned Brazilian packaging professionals. Winning an ABRE award makes the product eligible for submission in the prestigious Worldstar Award competition, sponsored by the World Packaging Organisation.
