Dr. Squatch Boosts Sustainability and Shelf Appeal with Viva’s Mono-Material Packs

  • VIVA

Viva's award-winning mono-material tubes and deodorant sticks provide brands with a sustainable edge—offering enhanced recyclability and reducing contamination in the waste stream. "Since mono-material packaging relies on fewer materials, it can result in lower energy use during both production and recycling," explains Melanie Gaudun, Business Development and Marketing Manager, Viva Healthcare Packaging (Canada) Ltd. "Employing a single material streamlines sourcing and inventory management, which can shorten lead times and boost supply chain efficiency."

Viva focuses on injection-molded mono-material packaging, providing a variety of sustainable choices, including mono-material PP tubes (with tube, closure, applicator, and in-mold label) and deodorant sticks (featuring barrel, cap, internal parts, and in-mold labels). Other options include a PP jar and closure, as well as a refillable heavy-wall jar system with a jar, closure, and inner refill pod. The latest addition to Viva’s product lineup is a mono-material roller-ball tube.

Proving partnering with Viva has a positive impact on the environment, Dr. Squatch elevated the sustainability and appeal of its deodorant stick packaging by selecting the company's mono-material wide deodorant stick and D48.5 mono-material round oval tube for its Ball Barrier Dry Lotions. According to Gaudun, this choice creates an eco-friendly, cohesive packaging look. "Both options utilize a mono-material polypropylene structure with a high level of PCR, supporting Dr. Squatch’s sustainability commitment while enhancing shelf impact," she says.

The brand’s custom-colored 2.65 oz. wide deodorant stick is crafted from 100% recycled PP, featuring a barrel, cap, and inner components with in-mold labeling on both cap and barrel and a debossed logo on the cap top. The 3.4 fl. oz. D48.5 round oval tube, meanwhile, is built with a custom-colored sleeve made from 35% recycled PP, 100% recycled PP shoulders, and a molded matte flip-top cap of 100% recycled PP, showcasing 360° shoulder-to-crimp in-mold label decoration.

"The wide deodorant stick and D48.5 round oval tube were an ideal choice for Dr. Squatch, greatly enhancing shelf presence and providing ample space for high-definition branding with in-mold label decoration," Gaudun says. "In addition, the mono-material polypropylene structure with high PCR content not only aligns with the brand’s environmental goals but also delivers a unified and visually striking packaging solution across product lines, making it a natural fit for Dr. Squatch’s range."
